Homestead Exemption
If you currently pay property tax and receive a homestead exemption, please watch your mail over the next few weeks for a letter and form from City Tax Assessor. You can view a generic copy of the letter and form by clicking here. You will need to fill out the form and send it back to the Tax Assessor to re-apply for the homestead exemption. If you do not complete the form and return it, the Tax Assessor will send you a tax bill next year that does not include the benefit of the exemption, which currently is at 50% but could be changed in the coming year. The new form requires you to identify all of the cars you own that spend 30 days or more in Rhode Island. Beginning this year, it is necessary for taxpayers to register this category of cars in Providence in order to receive the benefit of the homestead exemption.

Entertainment Licenses on Thayer Street
Are you concerned about the number of entertainment license applications on Thayer Street? The third entertainment license request was made Feb 2012. Two have been grated thus far on Thayer. This is an issue we are watching closely and working to suppress. As additional applications come to light we will publish them here. You can help block the passage of the request by sumbitting a letter or attending the scheduled meeting at the Zoning Board to offer your voice of opposition. Please contact us directly to receive a template of a letter of opposition that you can submit on your own accord.
CHNA MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
CHNA Board meetings are held at the Governor Henry Lippitt House Museum,
199 Hope Street, at the corner of Hope and Angell, on the first Monday of each month. CHNA Board business discussion begins at 7pm. Any presentations given by outside organizations will start at 7:45 pm. Ending comments are heard before the close of the meeting.
To ensure that our meetings proceed efficiently, agenda topics are determined in advance. If you would like to make CHNA’s Board aware of a specific issue, please email us at
chna@collegehillneighborhoodassocation.org and ask about securing a spot on an upcoming meeting agenda. Meeting dates and presenters will be listed on the home page.
Please carry a bag when you are walking your dog! In addition to being messy, dog waste poses serious hazards to human and canine health, and can contaminate groundwater with dangerous bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella. Biodegradable plastic bags made specifically for pet waste are available, and may be ordered online if they’re not in stock (though they often are) at local grocery and pet supply stores.
